The piece which I am analyzing is from Jay Chou's movie "Secret".

(Picture taken from Wikipedia.org) Title: "Bu neng shuo the mi mi"
Key:
E minor

Section A & A'
[Overview of first 8-bar analysis: Chord structure at a glance]
i V7 V/VII VII V/VI VI iv V/VI VI iv III VI V i
The same chords were repeated in the next phrase with little being altered until bar 13 where the right hand breaks into a series of running semiquaver notes that recurs often in the rest of the piece. (Fig. 1)

If i did not read wrongly, this piece is found in the scene:
whereby the explanation of this piece is rather interesting to me:)
“Secret”
“Follow the notes upon the journey
At first sight marks one's destiny
Once the voyage comes to an end
Return lies within hasty keys”
Interpretation:
Playing the notes will allow one to embark on a journey. (Section A)
The first person you see will be the only one who can see you.
To return to the present, play the piece quickly. (Use of running semiquaver notes)
“At first sight marks one’s destiny” - After the first time Xiao Yu played “Secret”, Xiang Lun was the first person she set her eyes on, and from then on her destiny was tied with his.

Dot,

Please reflect the chord position in your analysis. Bars 6-7 are particularly tricky, examine it more carefully to understand the harmonic logic.

In terms of its style, which composer/genre do you think this piece is alluding to?

Finally, something to KIV for now: we will be discussing compound melody in class soon, do examine this aspect here later on.
